Bats! (they're good).
And, what does it mean when a garden calendar says, "Set Out Plants Only"?
I decided to add a quick Tuesday edition of the “Beyond Basics” newsletter for a couple (or three) reasons:
I’m waiting for the roads to dry from yesterday’s half-inch of rain (yay!) before heading out on BIG BIKE RIDE TUESDAY (a legal holiday in my head).
To remind you that, “Hey! The Tuesday edition of the Garden Basics podcast is out now!” The current edition is a love letter from farmers and gardeners to flying rodents:
And now, a public service message from the National Park Service: “FALSE. Although bats are small like rodents, they're more closely related to primates and humans than they are to mice or rats.”
Also in Episode 180 of the Garden Basics podcast, we answer the questions, “When do you set out plants?” and “What the heck does it mean to ‘set out plants?’”
I hate dealing with 21st century digital technology. But, in the spirit of “shut up and do it!”, there is a nifty new website for the Garden Basics with Farmer Fred podcast: gardenbasics.net . There, you can find ALL the Garden Basics with Farmer Fred podcast episodes, along with links to this newsletter, the “Farmer Fred Minute” You Tube page, the Farmer Fred Rant! blog page, and that harbinger of old-timey website design where the emphasis is on words, not pictures: farmerfred.com , originally designed using ClarisWorks on an E-Mac using System 9. And is still updated that way, but is becoming less and less usable in a System 10 world. Which is why I am, (to quote myself, “just shut up and do it!”) attempting to find and implement an easy to understand web design app for System 10 on my Mac Mini where I can resume updating that website. My thanks, by the way, to the people of Lithuania for gardenbasics.net and being patient with my questions, worries and nightmares about websites.
If you would prefer to read the podcast instead of listen to it - and I understand that, completely - the easiest accessible transcript is available at the host site for the Garden Basics podcast: https://www.buzzsprout.com/1004629 (and you can call me by my nickname, “1004”). I wish all podcast apps were as inclusive as Buzzsprout when it comes to show notes, links, transcripts, and chapters.
OK, the roads are dry, I’m off for fun on the Cannondale Synapse. I’ll be the one in the Hawaiian floral print cycling jersey.
As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases from some of the underlined links in the newsletter. This is how I am trying to keep this a free newsletter. And as long as you buy whatever you want from Amazon using any of those links to get into the Amazon site, I get a few pennies. Thank you.
